May 31, 2024

As part of the exciting announcement to expand the Blue Cypress Golf Course in Arlington by three holes, the City of Jacksonville announced a partnership with Jacksonville University to support the buildout of a new, shared clubhouse. The course expansion and investment in the future design and buildout of a practice facility, which will be used by Jacksonville University’s golf programs, highlights the continued investment in the Arlington community.

“Plans are also coming together for a new permanent clubhouse, and that new facility is envisioned to include space for both the First Tee and Jacksonville University’s golf teams,” said Jacksonville Mayor, Donna Deegan. “Jacksonville University continues to be such a wonderful community partner for us and we appreciate them.”

Jacksonville University’s partnership with the City of Jacksonville enables support for programs and initiatives that foster personal and professional growth, promote health and wellness, and enhance the overall quality of life for Arlington residents.

“Blue Cypress continues to be a gem in the Arlington area. The opening of an additional three holes, to a total of 12, I believe, will perfectly align with the game of golf,” said Jacksonville City Council President, Ron Salem. “The addition of First Tee and bringing in the Jacksonville University golf teams to play will certainly elevate this course back to the stature it once had.”

Over the last several years, Jacksonville University has raised and committed more than $1 million to go towards the construction of a multi-use facility which will house the new pro shop and the university’s men’s and women’s golf programs. The investment will support the future design and buildout of a short game practice facility on the grounds for use by the JU programs.

“Our 90-year old institution is proud to be a part of the enhancement of one of Arlington’s staple destinations, the Blue Cypress Golf Course,” said Alex Ricker-Gilbert, Senior Vice President and Athletic Director at Jacksonville University. “The addition of a Division I golf practice facility and new clubhouse has the potential to significantly enhance prestige and appeal, ultimately resulting in long term success for the course and the community.”
