Job Summary

The successful applicant will coordinate honors and scholar program students’ academic advising, tracking, monitoring, communicating student progress, and reporting on academic success metrics. The applicant will also collaborate with the Executive Director, Director, and Associate Director on tasks such as student recruitment, honors academic advising, identifying fellowships and scholarships for our students, and tracking and publicizing honors and scholar students’ achievements. This administrative position fully supports honors and scholars program students, ensuring their pathway to success.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversees the daily workflow of the honors and scholars program.
  • Helps resolve student academic and enrichment-related issues.
  • Oversee up to six honors and/or scholars student workers and peer mentors.

Duties/Responsibilities

Honors & Scholars Programs Advising:

  • Develop advising programs for use in one-on-one advising during the student's undergraduate career based on the requirements of honors programs and the student's interests.
  • Develop and deliver timely, supportive advising services to honors students, inservice professional development, and training for internal collaborators.
  • Advise honors students for career/program choices, clinical experiences, extra-curricular activities, and experiential learning/service orientation.
  • Meet with each honors student to advise and mentor them regarding their honors curriculum, including opportunities for research, scholarship, and creative activity that align with their abilities, interests, and personal goals.

Retention, Progression, & Graduation:

  • Collaborate with the appropriate university committees and offices to monitor honors students' retention, progression, and graduation (RPG).
  • In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), maintaining advising records by tracking student performance at the end of each semester. Identify honors students who are “at-risk” or offtrack with their honors requirements and communicate to the executive team and student in a timely manner.
  • Provide recommendations for student success and refer to appropriate campus support
    services. 

Scholarship & Personal Development Opportunities:

  • Identify and advise honors students for:
    • prestigious national fellowships and scholarships;
    • opportunities to present research or creative activity at honors or relevant professional conferences;
    • networking and professional skill development opportunities.

First-Gen Student Guidance:

  • Provide outreach for first-generation students to proactively connect them with appropriate academic and non-academic student services that promote their success.
  • Document communication and referrals thoroughly and accurately using university software.

Community Building:

  • Support Honors and Scholars student association and Honors Living Learning Community meetings, events, and activities.

Relationship Management: 

  • Maintain relationships and work collaboratively with college and faculty advisors and other functions across campus, including student affairs, student enrichment center, academic success center, career management, and study away and abroad offices.

  • Ability to work independently and to be self-directed and self-motivated;
  • Team player and ability to work with a variety of cross-functional academic and student support departments;
  • Detailed-oriented with strong organizational, prioritization, and customer service skills;
  • Knowledge of U.S. university programs, academic advising, and course scheduling;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PPT, and Office);
  • Proficiency or willingness to learn Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.

Education, Certificates, Licenses, & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Master’s Degree in Education or comparable.
  • Experience in an education setting.
  • Significant work with honors students preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student groups.
  • Experience with program coordination and execution.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to move easily around a large campus setting.
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively by phone, video, and in person.
